About the library
The Library and Information Services for Earth System Sciences is a joint service of the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) at the University of Hamburg. Primarily, we offer our extensive service for students and staff of the institutes involved but guests are always welcome.

BIS for Earth System Sciences is a member in the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Meereskundlicher Bibliotheken (AMB) and the Arbeitskreis der Geo- und Umweltbibliotheken (Geoum)
Available media
Our print and e-media with a focus on meteorology, climatology, oceanography, geophysics, biogeochemistry, hydrobiology, marine ecosystems, geology, earth system and environmental research are listed in the catalogue.
We offer numerous specialized databases for literature searches and have access to a variety of electronic journals via the Electronic Journals Library (EZB). Please contact us for individual introductions.
Arrangement of the collection
The journals and series are arranged alphabetically after the title. They can be found in sections A (A-O) and B (P-Z). In section E you can find Bachelor-, Master- and Diploma theses as well as Dissertations.
All text books are arranged in subject groups and are placed in section C and D. The following documents provide an overview:
